TV One’s  show, “Verses and  Flow,” which is engineered by Lexus, brings poetry to life, offering viewers a rare chance to see spoken word performances from familiar music artists, right alongside world renowned poets. Here are five reasons why you should not miss a single episode:

1) Laz Alonso

Each episode is hosted by accomplished film and television actor, Laz Alonso (An alumnus of Howard University, best known for his portrayal of Jason Taylor in the romantic comedy “Jumping the Broom”). Alonso introduces each segment of the show, highlighting the resurgence of spoken word.

2) You Can Relate

Whether you’re just a casual fan of spoken word or a hardcore Slam junkie, you will undoubtedly relate to the messages of these poets.  The topics run the gamut from a woman sharing her struggles with the world’s perception of her beauty to a rapper who can’t figure out how to remain relevant and real at the same time.  The performances here put the “tell” and “vision” back in television.

3) Musicians with No Beats

Some of your favorite artists like David Banner, Bone Crusher, and Pharoahe Monch showed a side of them not often seen as they rocked the stage without a beat, using just their voices and powerful words to move the audience. Get ready for more as stars like actor/bass player Malcolm-Jamal Warner perform poetry that moves the crowd.

4) Smooth R&B

Reminiscent of Russell Simmons “Def Poetry Jam” and BET J’s “Lyric Cafe,” each episode includes a music performance from some of the industry’s best and brightest R&B talents.  Grammy nominated and award winning R&B artists like Tyrese, Marsha Ambrosius, Ledisi, Kem, Estelle, Angie Stone, and Melanie Fiona all graced the stage in previous seasons. For the fourth season, “Lexus Verses and Flow” musical guest will include “American Idol” winner Candice Glover and a special appearance by none other than Maxwell.

5) Much Needed Change of Pace

One can only watch but so many ‘reality’ TV, cooking, and how bad can you dance on national TV shows.  “Lexus Verses and Flow” offers viewers a chance to experience art and culture in a way that’s both as fresh as it is cool. And with one click of your remote you can experience the ambiance and vibe of the poetry scene from the comfort of your own living room. If that weren’t enough watching the show also puffers you a chance to give back to your community, as the show is working closely with a program to support education at HBCUs.

“Lexus Verses & Flow” season four premieres on August 16th at 10:00pm on TVONE.
