Complex & Nah Right have a really interesting scenario going on called “Style Wars.” The two opponents featured are style mavens who’ve cut their own paths in the game.

Check out the tale of the tape:

Kanye West:

Since coming into the game in Polo Shirts and Louis Vuitton backpacks, Mr. West has evolved from a fashion outsider to one of the biggest trendsetters in popular culture. His passion for fashion is undeniable, setting unique trends and importing certain high fashion trends into the fickle hip-hop mainstream. There’s no denying that Mr. West had made it popular to be original, urging everyone to reevaluate their preconceived notions about what is acceptable in hip-hop fashion.

Kanye pays close attention to large and small brands from all over the globe, carefully accenting his look with exclusive accessories like sunglasses, watches, kicks, and luggage. He’s gradually developing a fashion empire of his own, with his recent sneaker collaborations with Nike and Louis Vuitton, along with his own highly anticipated clothing like, Pastelle. Kanye is on his way becoming a very real player on the international fashion scene.

Vs.

Pharrell Williams:

There’s no denying that Skateboard P almost singlehandedly changed the course of hip-hop fashion. Back when hip-hop was in the thick of its baggy clothes and throwback era, Pharrell and his Neptunes partner Chad stood out from the pack with tight, skate-influence gear and mesh trucker hats. Noreaga was famously shocked (and assumed the producer was gay) when Pharrell showed up to the “Oh No” video shoot wearing a black leather choker.

But what was once a completely taboo way to dress has since become the norm. Hip-hop’s infatuation with Japanese streetwear brand A Bathing Ape can be traced back to Pharrell, and the general trend towards more fitting clothing probably started with P too. Today he’s developed his unique tastemaking ability into his own brands, BBC and Ice Cream. Throughout it all, P maintains a comfortable, consistent style that doesn’t change with every little trend. Where would hip-hop be without Pharrell? Probably still wearing white Tees and baggy jeans.
