The Help continued its reign on the awards circuit as it swept the 43rd Annual NAACP Image Awards last night.  Viola Davis won Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture, and Octavia Spencer was awarded Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.  The movie also won Outstanding Motion Picture.

The ceremony also included a moving tribute to Whitney Houston, performed by gospel singer Yolanda Adams.  The Vanguard Award was given to George Lucas for his World War II drama “Red Tails” based on the Tuskegee Airmen.  Lucas said he made the film to be inspirational, patriotic and to “show that everybody has contributed to building this country into what it is today.”

Black Hollywood legends such as Diahann Carroll, Harry Belafonte, Cicely Tyson and Louis Gossett Jr. took part in the festivities as award presenters.
