Thursday nights have just gotten juicier with the arrival of “Scandal.”  Kerry Washington plays Olivia Pope, a power player who does damage control for the high and mighty in Washington D.C.  Armed with razor sharp intellect and an equally savvy staff, Olivia Pope and Associates regulates the pulse of the political elite.

Creator Shonda Rhimes (“Grey’s Anatomy”) is giving the American viewing public a welcome alternative to the stereotypical images of black women seen on countless reality shows.  Kerry Washington’s Olivia Pope is strong, fierce, and always the  smartest person in the room smart (even when she’s with the President).

Men tend to be resistant to shows helmed by female leads for fear of it being too “soft” but we’ve listed five reasons why “Scandal” should be your new viewing addiction.

5. Women who tweet about “Scandal” are cuter than Basketball Wives fans

Seriously, have you seen the women who tweet about “Scandal” compared to “Basketball Wives”? Take a minute and toss “Basketball Wives” into your Twitter search:

No, I can’t pay for your broken screen, you should have known better than to search images of “Basketball Wives” fans (someone say rachet?). However, if your screen still works let me help you out. This girl tweets about “Scandal”:

4. Your Woman Will Be Very Pleased

If you’re married or in a relationship, chances are your significant other is already head over red bottomed heels in love with this show. By getting on board now, all you can do is win points with her and we all know those points can pay off in a major way. Single guys, do you need a new ice breaker? You’re welcome.

3. Shonda Rhimes is a BEAST

Men love shows like “CSI” and “West Wing” because we love intelligent political drama, guns, blood, and over the top story. Not only does Shonda Rhimes bring it on “Scandal” her quick, witty, rapid and most importantly memorable dialogue gives Aaron Sorkin a run for his money. Take it from me, you won’t be disappointed.

2.  Ms. Kerry Baby!

Fellas. This list doesn’t even have to be five items long, if only for this one reason alone: Kerry  Washington is H-O-T.  If you love a bossy woman who knows how to take charge, Kerry as Olivia Pope is only going to turn the heat up more. Timid men need not apply for the School of Olivia Pope. Not even a certain Philadelphia Eagle can subdue this Pitbull. She’s a gladiator in a skirt.

1. Making History: Not only is Scandal the first dramatic network television show written and by a Black woman that stars a Black woman in a leading role, the show is only the fourth hour long show to air in primetime EVER. Its predecessors include Teresa Graves’ “Get Christie Love” (1974), Jill Scott’s “The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency” (2008) on HBO, and Jada Pinkett Smith’s “HawthoRNe” (2009) on TNT. Being on ABC, this makes Ms. Washington the first Black woman to star in a network drama in 38 years. These reasons alone are as good enough as any to watch “Scandal.”
