The music business is a transient industry. Plenty of artists are in their basements working on they believe to be the next big thing. Usually, they are drunk on their own hype they haven’t earned. Some artists come into the game have a hit or two and are no longer hot by the next week. None of these things were true about rapper/singer Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.
As a member of TLC, Lopes shocked the world with her bold statements and I-don’t-care attitude. Since her death in 2002, there has been a void in the lives of T-Boz and Chilli and in the hearts of music fans across the world.
Our friends at Vibe Magazine imagined a music industry where Left Eye was still around and how things would be so different than how they are now. Check out an excerpt below:
Oh, what we wouldn’t give for another TLC album with fresh Left Eye verses! Together as a trio, they brought us music that seemed to change the world. The HIV/AIDS awareness in “Waterfalls,” accepting who you are in “Unpretty,” and the female empowerment—although a little male bashing, but we digress—of “No Scrubs” showed that TLC had a universal appeal that not just spoke to the urban platform, but the world as a whole. Aside from missing Lisa, we miss these ladies together.
