John Legend isn’t excited about Britney Spears and Demi Lovato joining The X-Factor as judges. Legend, who himself will be taking part as a judge on the new ABC singing competition series, Duets, questioned the merits to which the Disney vets were awarded the coveted gigs. Speaking with E! News, the singer-songwriter said, “You know it’s interesting. It should be very interesting. I don’t have much to say,” he said.
He then said after that: “It’s interesting when people you know who are judging singing competitions when they aren’t really singers. It’s interesting.”
Meanwhile, his Duets co-stars, Kelly Clarkson and Robin Thicke were much kinder.
While the first American Idol champion said “you want to root for” Spears and Lovato, Robin Thicke said flatly: “Oh come on, everything Britney does, she excels at. Demi is a lovely young lady, and I’m sure they’ll do nothing but make the show a lot more fun to watch.” Obviously, those two remember their media training.
And if you’re wondering, yes Britney stans, John has heard from you. He tweeted: “Read my mentions today if you want some entertainment served with a side dish of crazy and a sprinkle of racism.” And: “I’ve never heard demi’s voice btw. Wasn’t referring to her.” Oops, y’all did it again. Shimmy.
