Billing their awards as “Too Big To Miss,” BET Networks brought out the big guns for hosting the 2012 Awards ceremony. During a press conference held at BET’s New York studios, it was announced that actor Samuel L. Jackson would be this year’s host.

The selection of Jackson is a departure from years past when comedians like Mo’Nique and Kevin Hart hosted the show. But BET’s President of Music Programming and Specials, Stephen G. Hill, is confident that The Avengers star will more than fit the bill.

“We are massively excited about having Sam Jackson, the world’s biggest box office star, host The BET Awards 12,” said Hill. “His wit, presence and gigantic personality are the perfect match for our show.”

In addition, the members of Maze featuring Frankie Beverly will be receiving the Cadillac Lifetime Achievement Award and Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj are expected to perform.

As for nominees, Kanye West leads the pack with seven, followed by Beyonce and Jay-Z with six and five respectively. The extended Carter family dominate the Video of The Year category with “Countdown”, “Love On Top”, “Otis” and “N*ggas In Paris” crowding the list leaving only Usher’s “Climax” as the lone outsider.

BET avoided any potential drama in the Best Female Hip Hop Artist category this year with Trina getting her nomination along with Diamond, Nicki Minaj and  Brianna Perry. Last year the Diamond Princess declared war on Twitter for being snubbed. The artist and network eventually reconciled.

The BET Awards 12 will be televised live on July 1, 2012. CLICK HERE for the full list of nominees.
