Orlando Magic baller Dwight Howard had no part in making the decision to fire Stan Van Gundy.
When stopped by TMZ cameramen, Howard told them he had nothing to do with Stan Van Gundy vacating the head coach position of the Orlando Magic. Howard did admit he and Van Gundy went through peaks and valleys in the relationship, but he never thought Van Gundy would lose his job.

“Me and Stan … we had our ups and downs … but for the most part we had one goal … to win a championship in Orlando, but we fell short,” expressed the three time Defensive player of the Year. The whispers Dwight Howard had something to do with Van Gundy’s termination grew to a roar and Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins had to issue a statement proclaiming Howard’s innocence. Dwight Howard commented on how relieved he was after Martins made a statement in his defense. “I’m glad [Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins] confirmed I had nothing to do with it.”
Howard also spoke about an upcoming interview, which is set to air on ESPN, that he shot in April. He offered that the interview was “inaccurate and old.” Though he never pointed to a specific part of the interview, Howard told the camera crew, “A lot of stuff has changed since then.”
It sounds like Dwight Howard went all the way off in this interview. That would be the only reason to be copping pleas before anyone has ever seen the thing. As for Van Gundy’s firing, Howard probably didn’t have anything to do with that decision. Team owners don’t leave those types of decisions in players’ hands, especially after they don’t bring home any rings.
