There are two kinds of MCs–ones that can tell a good story and ones that have a good story to tell. Every so often fans get lucky and come across an artist that has both the skill and life narrative to make them compelling. Brooklyn’s Torae is one of those rare artists.

After releasing the collaborative project Double Barrel in 2009 with producer Marco Polo, the native of the Coney Island Projects released his first solo album, For The Record, in 2011.  The CD featured production from hip-hop elite like DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Diamond D, 9th Wonder and more. Now Torae will be partnering with TheUrbanDaily to release a series of mini-documentaries that share the experience he had recording that album and his grind as an independent artist.

Starting tomorrow August 1 we will be releasing the first of his 5-episode series, which will air every Wednesday in August. Then on August 28th, Torae will digitally release Off The Record, an eight-song EP recorded during the making of For The Record.

“I worked very hard on For The Record and recorded a lot of tracks with different producers,” says Torae. “Some songs didn’t make the album, not because they were wack, but because I didn’t want to over saturate the project & storyline. Off The Record is something for true Torae fans. Songs that deserve to be heard. Think of it as the For The Record, Lost Tapes.” says Torae.

Off The Record will be released digitally via iTunes and other online retailers on Tuesday, August 28 2012. Tracklisting, credits and album artwork are below. The first single “Gettin’ Biz” produced by Khrysis will drop soon.
