Ava DuVernay (above) already had an impressive resume as a marketer and publicist collaborating on film and TV projects with a who’s who of the Hollywood “A” list ranging from Steven Spielberg to Clint Eastwood through her DVA Media + Marketing firm. DuVernay has stepped behind the camera herself and is making waves with her second film MIDDLE OF NOWHERE.

At the 2012 Sundance Film Festival DuVernay became the first African-American woman to win the Best Director Award. Starring up and coming actress Emayatzy Corinealdi and Omari Hardwick, MIDDLE OF NOWHERE follows Ruby, a bright medical student who sets aside her dreams and suspends her career when her husband is incarcerated. Faced with the prospect of an eight-year sentence, Ruby must learn to live another life. But through a chance encounter, this steadfast wife is soon propelled in new and often shocking directions of self-discovery – caught between two worlds and two men in the search for herself.
