Last night, I had the pleasure of attending Rihanna‘s album listening party at mentor–Jay-Z’s– 40/40 club in NYC. I’ll be honest, I’ve been to the lavish venue for lunch before (actually, I was an intern and grabbing my editor’s midday meal), but I’ve never actually partied there. Turns out it isn’t the traditional club and because of that no one dances… However, you don’t need to dance when Jay-Z may walk in any minute and that’s exactly what happened. In between club shuffles, Hov walked straight through the front door and into the VIP area, causing a massive flutter of press, fans and one chick who couldn’t stop staring at herself in the mirror. But not even his entrance would top Rihanna’s.

Whispers that the beauty wouldn’t show began to make their way around the establishment and after standing in BCBG pumps for three hours, I was ready to go. As my best friend and I walked outside we could hear one of the staffers say “she’s on her way.” Hmm… It didn’t take long for the black SUV to pull around the corner revealing Ri Ri in the back seat as she ducked to hide from paparazzi. I found my other girls in the club and told them that she’d be in here any minute. The DJ spun “Diamonds,” and just like I promised, Rihanna, guarded by security and surrounded by on-lookers, she walked past us, glistening like a “Twillight” vampire in the sun!
Clearly still reeling from performing in seven cities in seven days, she held one side of her ears to shield her drums from the screams the anxious crowd. Still, she smiled and made her way to the secluded section of the house that Jay-Z built.
Tyson Beckford, Jessica White, Olivia, Bridget Kelly, Jennifer Williams and Laura Govan were also in attendance.
In addition to rocking NYC and wrapping her massive “777″ tour, Ri Ri’s “Diamonds landed at the number one spot on the Billboard charts, making it her 12th number one single, reports Rap-Up.
