Has Bruno Mars ever been arrested? Yes, Bruno Mars has been arrested, though his September 2010 cocaine bust has done little to tarnish his career, and he remains one of the biggest and most beloved pop singers in the world. Born Peter Gene Hernandez on October 8, 1985, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Bruno Mars has been in showbiz since childhood, and he got his start singing songs by superstars like Elvis and Michael Jackson. After high school, he moved to Los Angeles, where he formed the production team the Smeezingtons and landed a deal with Motown. His partnership with that label went nowhere, but later in the decade, Bruno got his big break thanks to a pair of hit collabos: B.o.B.’s “Nothin’ on You” and “Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire.” That set the stage for 2010, the year Bruno dropped his debut album, “Doo-Wops & Hooligans.” It was also the year he was arrested for cocaine possession in Las Vegas.

Bruno Mars was arrested in September 2010 for possessing 2.6 grams of cocaine, and while he originally told police it was his first using drugs, he later admitted that was a lie. “I don’t know where that came from,” he told GQ, as USMagazine reports. “I was really intoxicated. I was really drunk.” Luckily, the Bruno Mars’ cocaine arrest didn’t lead to substantial jail time, and in early 2011, he agreed to plead guilty in exchange for a pretty sweet deal: By agreeing to pay a $2,000 fine, perform 200 hours of community service, and stay out of trouble for a year, the offense was erased from his record.

When Bruno Mars plead guilty to cocaine possession after that September 2010 arrest, his lawyer Blair Berk was happy with the outcome, MTV reports, and relieved the judge had taken into account Mars’ status as a first-time offender. “We’re extremely pleased the charge against Bruno is going to be dismissed,” she said.
