Common & 50 Cent Lose Loved Ones
Common + 50 Cent Lose Loved Ones
There’s an old belief that death comes in threes. It’s always sad when such prophecies come to light, as two of hip-hop’s heavyweights recently lost very close family members. Common‘s father Lonnie “Pops” Lynn Sr. (71) and 50 Cent‘s grandmother Beulah Jackson were each called home.
While Common and his father have had an up and down relationship at times, the Chicago MC often gave his Pops credit for inspiring him. In a recent LA interview, the ‘Nobody’s Smiling‘ rapper was quoted as saying, “The way he said things made me look at life and the world in a new way, in a different way. They always sparked a thought in my head. His words would always make me strive to achieve higher, to write better, to be more truthful with my words.” The Inspirational Pops is a former American Basketball Association star and someone who also struggled with prostate cancer. As part of Lupe Fiasco‘s ‘Stand Up 2 Cancer’ initiative, Common touched on his father’s sickness in Lupe’s “Remission” track. Check the powerful message below.
Sadly, hip-hop was dealt another blow on Wednesday Sept. 17th as 50 Cent’s grandmother Beulah Jackson passed away. Jackson has always been 50’s driving force towards greatness. After losing his mother at eight years old, Beulah stepped in and raised 50 into the man we’ve all come to love and admire. The Queens MC sat down with his grandmother by his side, in an interview on Oprah’s ‘Next Chapter’.
Prayers and condolences to each of their families.
