From HotHipHopDetroit.com – With the ever changing sound of music and the evolving culture of hip hop due to commercialization, a person riddling off their top five greatest rappers is more than a Saturday morning chat at the barbershop. Any hip hop aficionado can learn the character of ones being by the list given.

Although a conversation typically held by black males, ladies can learn a lot about a man based on his list. In fact, this question alone can trump the typical introductory dating questions that would allude to the type of person he is, having too much baggage or a past you cannot deal with. Hell, I’ll even say this question alone may tell you everything you need to know further more saving you the headache of wasting time on a pretty smile.

Although the theme of characters asking who their top five favorite rappers are is consistent throughout Chris Rock’s TOP FIVE, the lack of focus on the matter made me question the film’s title.

Chris Rock Lists His ‘Top Five’ In Official Movie Trailer [VIDEO]

Nevertheless, I think Chris Rock finally found his directorial niche, successfully bringing his comedic style of dancing between the line of funny and taking shit too far while adding a romantic flare to the big screen. As they say third time is a charm. Speaking of which, Chris Rock surprised the audience in the screening I attended. As he made his way to the front of the theater to address the fans, he stopped by me for a quick selfie. The first shot was a dozy and the second wasn’t much better. (See below) Although I feel the third time could have been our charm, he made a joke stating “I don’t usually do red heads two times on Wednesdays!” as he continued on throwing a few shots at the local sports teams.

In short the movie is INTENSE! TOP FIVE takes things to the next level, reveling in the high and the low, and blending a star-studded comedic romp with an irresistible romance. TOP FIVE digs under the surface of show business, politics, rap, and the exigencies of being black and famous today—holding it all up to the light in the way only Chris Rock can.

Written, directed by, and starring Chris Rock, TOP FIVE tells the story of New York City comedian-turned-film star Andre Allen, whose unexpected encounter with a journalist forces him to confront the comedy career—and the past—that he’s left behind.

Starring Chris Rock, Rosario Dawson, Kevin Hart, Tracy Morgan, Cedric The Entertainer, J.B. Smoove, Sherri Shepherd, Anders Holm, Romany Malco, Leslie Jones, Michael Che, and Jay Pharoah.

Although I don’t foresee any best supporting actor Academy Awards being given out, the powerful presence and use of Rosario Dawson’s smile and Jerry Seinfeld making it rain in a real big booty clapping strip club is nothing short of platinum status.

Mingling echoes of Woody Allen and Dick Gregory with the energy of Kanye West and Jay Z, TOP FIVE is an original and radically new kind of American movie.

The film is produced by Scott Rudin and Eli Bush. The Co-Producers are Shawn “Jay Z” Carter and Kanye West; the Executive Music Producer is Questlove.

TOP FIVE hits theaters Friday.

P.S. Did I mention it made me shed one tear at the very end? Yes, one, and it was worth it. Just as TOP FIVE is worth the trip to the movies in the blistering cold weather this weekend. Check out the trailer below!
