One of the latest leaked e-mails in the Sony Pictures hack has confirmed whispers about a groundbreaking dream gig for Idris Elba.

There’s been buzz about Elba possibly playing 007 for years, and the demand has been there ever since the idea first made its way around he Internet.

If he landed the role, Elba would be the first Black man to play the iconic secret agent. In an e-mail revealed by The Daily Beast, it seems that Sony Pictures chief Amy Pascal was onboard with the idea, writing, “Idris should be the next Bond.”

And if the current Bond—Daniel Craig—has anything to say, Elba will soon have an opportunity to take over the role. Craig signed on for one more round as James in Spectre, which is due out next September. He told the Daily Beast in 2012, though, that he’s wanted to shake off the gig for years.

“I’ve been trying to get out of this from the very moment I got into it. But they won’t let me go, and I’ve agreed to do a couple more,” he stated. “Let’s see how this one does, because business is business, and if the sh*t goes down, I’ve got a contract that somebody will happily wipe their a*s with.”

There’s no word on whether Sony is still moving ahead with plans to book Elba as the next Bond, but they’ve got bigger fish to fry right now with the ongoing fallout from the studio leak. That’s why the Sony Pictures has brought professional fixer Judy Smith on board to help them out.

TMZ.com reports that the studio hired the real-life inspiration for Olivia Pope to help guide Pascal on the company’s next steps.
