Although Will Smith isn’t returning to kill some aliens in Independence Day Forever Part 1, the Earth is still in good hands. The Hollywood Reporter reported that the Dreamworks-produced sequel has found its lead man.
That will be Jessie Usher, best known for his role on Starz’s Survivor’s Remorse, where he plays a pro basketball player, instead of the savior of mankind. It should be quite the transition. Usher will play the son of Will Smith’s iconic character.
Usher will be joined by Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) and Jeff Goldblum, who reprises his role from the original. Roland Emmerich will also return to direct the 2.0 version of his 1996 blockbuster.
Independence Day Forever Part 1 is set for release in June 2016.
