Allen Iverson hasn’t played an NBA game since the 2010 season, but the mutual appreciation between the retired Philadelphia 76ers guard and “The City Of Brotherly Love” still runs deep. When Philadelphia native Meek Mill returned home for his #WelcomeBackMeek Tour Saturday night, he surprised the crowd by bringing Iverson on stage.

“Y’all already know I love y’all,” Iverson told an estimated crowd of 18,0000 during a round of cheers. “I ain’t gotta keep telling y’all over and over again. You know what it is.”

Iverson ranks as the NBA’s 23rd highest scorer ever with 24,368 career points during stints with the Sixers, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, and Memphis Grizzlies. The Sixers have retired his jersey number. His aggressive playing style, signature cornrows and Hip-Hop influenced style is believed to have inspired a large number of current NBA players. Meek showed his appreciation calling Iverson “one of the realest,” and in a recent interview with Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, Iverson expressed interest in maintaining ties with the Sixers.

“I would like to be even in that war room,” Iverson said, in reference to the conference room where NBA executives often make franchise-altering choices. “Even if they don’t go with my decision or whatever, just to have an opinion and putting out what I think and trusting the organization to do what’s right.”
