Lil Wayne put on for his city in the hugest way possible with a music megafest on the 10-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and he brought a few friends along with him.

Wayne took it back to where it all started for him and so many of his special guests last night as he hit the stage for arguably one of the best shows of the year in his hometown of New Orleans. With the historic Mercedes-Benz Superdome as the backdrop, thousands of fans packed the lawn of the Champions Square venue to see Weezy and a who’s who of NOLA’s finest light the city on fire with the past, present and future sounds of New Orleans hip hop (and a little R&B.)

The earliest of surprise guests on the line up included DJ Jubilee, Big Freeda, Curren$y, August Alsina and New Orleans hip hop group Squad Up. No Limit Records pioneer Master P also touched the stage briefly and brought out Mia X for a quick cameo before giving his newest signees some shine. Later on, Wayne brought out his Young Money family including Cory Gunz, Gudda, Mack Maine and Jae Millz for a performance of their hits.

The most memorable moment of the night, of course, came when the Hot Boyz joined their former youngest member on stage one by one, beginning with original Big Tymer himself Mannie Fresh coming out to their 2002 hood classic “Still Fly” and ending with an explosive performance of Juvenille’s “Back That Azz Up.”

The second most memorable moment of the night came when Wayne closed out the show with a surprise set from none other than his superstar protegee Drake, whom Wayne joined on stage for performances of “HYFR,” “Hotline Bling”, “Back to Back,” “Know Yourself” and a few other Drizzy classics.

Wayne mentioned during the show that he hopes to make LilWeezyanaFest an annual occurrence and if last night’s show was any indication of what’s to come, it would be a very good look for the city of New Orleans.
