US rap star Common has responded to the buzz surrounding his possible involvement in the A-Team movie – which is still dubiously pencilled in for a 2010 release. “Yeah, I’ve been hearing that, man,” the rapper-turned-actor said. “I’ve been hearing that.”

Common, who has a well-received part in the upcoming Terminator Salvation, is being lined up for the key B.A. Baracus role that the legendary Mr. T made his own. “If I’m considered for that role, I’m excited about it. I mean, I would love to do that. That’s iconic.”

The A-Team project is being helmed by Joe Carnahan, whose last film – the slick crime caper Smoking Aces – also starred Common in a lead role, so this could possibly see the two reunited. This follows on from another Smoking Aces cast member throwing their hat in the ring for A Team. The newly minted A-lister Chris Pine, from summer-smash Star Trek, has already gone public with his intentions.

However, Common hasn’t been practicing his ‘I pity the fool’, ‘I ain’t getting on no plane’ or ‘quit your jibber-jabber’-s in preparation. “No, not yet, bro,” he said, laughing, “and I don’t know how I’m going to do the mohawk…You’ve got try and bring something new to it.

Common, a surprisingly confident and assured actor, would seem like a good fit for B.A. – probably the one character most in danger of any fanboy backlash. And, to be honest, anyone other than early frontrunner Ice Cube would be an improvement..
