With seven albums in almost as many years she has built up an impressive catalogue, but we have our favorites. Here are the Top 10 Rihanna songs.
10) S.O.S.
S.O.S. was an somewhat early release in Rihanna’s discography. This song was the lead single to her second studio album, “A Girl Like Me.” It was a somewhat different sound than what we had heard from her debut album. This track showed that Rihanna had broken past the sophomore curse and was in it for the long haul.
9) Rude Boy
Rihanna took us to the islands with Sean Paul in her “Rude Boy” single. The upbeat, tropical tone of the song had everyone in the club moving their hips to the ragamuffin pop style.
8) Russian Roulette
Rihanna is never afraid to put all of herself into her music. There is an obvious darkness to this song but one that works in her favor. The raw side of her emotions makes itself apparent in every corner of this single.
7) We Found Love
Rihanna has always had to push around the rumor mill over the span of her career and “We Found Love” was filled with references to the love she still had for a famous ex-boyfriend. From the lyrics in the song to the visuals for the music video, Rihanna was putting out a message that reached every walk of life. With a little help from Calvin Harris, this track exploded.
6) What’s My Name?
There’s no better way to shoo away rumors of a romance than putting out a single with the one you’re rumored to be with. Rihanna released this cute little love track with Drake, which became quite the summer anthem for lovers everywhere. The cat might have been out the bag, but no one seemed to care.
5) Birthday Cake
We are all aware of the Chris Brown and Rihanna’s turbulent romanc over the last few years, which only explained why the world was shocked when she released this highly sexual song with her ex-beau featured on the track. It was their first collaboration since the newsworthy situation and audiences hated to love the catchy seductive track. Looks like a bit of foreshadowing here?
4) Disturbia
This dark twisted fantasy (no pun intended) single, gave a window into the shadowy times Rihanna was obviously going through. She took her sound and formed it into a twisted rendition of what we had seen before.
3) Diamonds
The lyric, “Shine bright like a diamond”, has been on everyone’s minds since the day it was released on September 27 of 2012. We saw another transformation in Rihanna that was positive and renewing. Thanks to a new sound from Benny Blanco, and StarGate, Diamonds was another huge commercial success for the songstress.
2) Only Girl (In The World)
Rihanna introduced her fifth studio album, Loud, with the “Only Girl (In The World) single. Her fans were loving the redhead side of Rihanna and the up-tempo beats she was taking with her new album. The track was a dance hit around the world.
1) Umbrella
When the world had heard who Rihanna was with “Pon da Replay, there was no telling the ultimate success she would have. Thanks to the hit-making pen of The Dream (and Britney Spears passing on the song) Rihanna immediately had the world under her umbrella to weather any storms that may come.
