In a recent VLAD-TV interview, George Clinton sat down with Don Juan to talk about what’s going on in his world. The Atomic Dog himself is about to chronicle his life in a reality show that will cover his  legal battles, as well as his family life.

According to, during the course of several decades, Clinton has been in court rooms fighting over the copyrights to his catalog. Sadly, earlier this year, the creator of such legendary acts as; The ParliamentsFunkadelic and splinter groups such as  the P-Funk All-stars and the Brides of Funkenstein, relinquished the rights to four of his songs just so that he could pay off his attorney fees.

Clinton, dubbed Hip Hop’s “Second most sampled artist of all time”, has not been compensated for most of the work that has been sampled from him. He would like his legacy to be about alerting people to the idea that, they must protect and fight for their rights to their own music.

Says Clinton about his new show,

“I’m doing a reality show with my family, with my son Tracy, my six grandkids, Scott Thompson, Brandi – it’s a big family thing. A bit like ‘The Osbournes’ but most of them are, like, musicians, rappers and everything. We got to come up with new ways to get the music across, so we’re doing this reality show. So we can expose all the noses out there, stealing the copyrights and taking people’s music and money. This is all gonna be part of the reality show, the copyright fight, plus we still kicking ass onstage.”

Well, it won’t be grown women jumping over tables and pulling hair, but it may just be worth watching anyway. In a culture that is increasingly priding itself on supporting ratchetivity, it may be nice to learn about the history of our music, and to study a legend for a few minutes a week. Heaven forbid, we actually learn something about ourselves and where we’ve been! We ca’n’t wait to check for it.
