VIA SOHH:

G-Unit leader 50 Cent recently spoke on the importance of his LP-based mixtape War Angel which he hopes will spark a return to “real” hip-hop music.

Saying too many artists focus on one particular sound, Fif explained why he has to be “successful” behind the mic in order to spark a following.

What I fell in love with initially ain’t even in the motherf*ckin’ art form anymore,” Fif said in an interview. “It’s cool because there’s an opportunity for me to become [that] to a whole new generation…because of their age group, they’re not aware of it. Now I gotta shift the energy. I gotta make them follow me. After they follow me, they’ll be able to make real hip-hop records and make them successful. I have to have a successful project with really good hip-hop music go, ‘ to make these people go, ‘OK, we can make [a real hip-hop album].’ I have to be successful to make the record companies go, ‘We can support this guy that wrote a rap album’ instead of feeling likeWe need him to go on this record with Ne-Yo or Dream. Get somebody on there to do the hook.’ That’s the concept of what they feel they can present to the public and that’s not what the f*ck I was going on when I started.” (MTV)

Music from 50’s War Angel leaked online over the weekend which included the mixtape’s song “Redrum.”

No it don’t f*cking matter,” Fif raps on the track’s intro. “We gonna do it my way. From here on out it’s my way. 187 in motion, hammer cocked when I’m coastin’….If I hit ’em I hurt ’em/I’ll just catch ’em and murk ’em/I’m not sittin’ here waitin’ for him to comeback, nah/Soon as I spot him, I’ma run up an drop him/Get that P90 poppin’/Hold that/I get the gun and then run-in/N*ggas know me for dumbin’/I got a good reputation, what the f*ck can I say…It’s murder, nothing but murder.” (“Redrum”)

The rapper recently spoke on his lack of motivation in today’s hip-hop climate.

What I fell in love with and inspired me to get into hip-hop is dwindling away,” 50 explained in an interview. “I’d like to be a representation of that, because there isn’t much of that left. I think people are so conscious of the numbers they’re not being creative anymore.” (Billboard)
