Super Bowl XLVIII marks the tenth anniversary of the infamous Nipplegate incident where Justin Timberlake ripped off a piece of superstar Janet Jackson‘s costume to expose her breast that was adorned with a sunflower nipple ring. For a time after the halftime show, you couldn’t go anywhere, open a magazine, or turn to the news without hearing about Janet Jackson’s breast. The FCC went way over the top with the drama and fined Janet, Justin, MTV, CBS, and Pepsi for their respective parts in the debacle. Everyone seemed to shift the blame to the youngest Jackson rather than accepting responsibility for their parts. Despite immediately apologizing for her exposed breast, Janet was demonized by the media as if every other woman wasn’t born with a set of mammary glands.

The Super Bowl happened a week before the 2004 Grammy Awards where Justin Timberlake was nominated for a truckload of awards for his first album “Justified.” Janet Jackson was also invited to the Grammys that year. However, both were invited under the stipulation that as soon as they took the stage, they had to publicly apologize again. Justin won his first Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Performance and as part of his acceptance speech said, “Listen, I know it’s been a rough week on everybody. What occurred was unintentional, completely regrettable and I apologize if you guys were offended.” Timberlake’s speech seemingly left Jackson dead broke and naked in the wilderness of public opinion to fend for herself and she never really spoke about the incident following her apology.

So ten years after the world got a glimpse at Janet’s pierced bosom, The Urban Daily got an exclusive interview with her where we talked about Nipplegate, her feelings towards Justin Timberlake today, and how that moment affected her relationship with her conservative Muslim billionaire husband Wissam Al Mana. Follow along as Janet Jackson exposes herself–emotionally again.
