If I Ask A Man Out On A First Date Should I Have To Pay?

Dear Blackman,

I met someone recently that I am attracted to. He has no idea that I like him. Is it okay for me to ask him out on a date? If he accepts should I pay for the date or expect him to pay?

Hi Lindsay P.,

I feel it is totally acceptable for you to ask a guy out that you are interested in; especially if you have not shown him inkling of interest . You can not expect him to ask you out if he has no idea that you like him. You may lose out on a great opportunity if you don’t ask.

As far as paying for the date, you should be prepared to pay for the date. If he chooses to offer at the end that’s up to your discretion to let him but since you asked him out you should be willing to pay. Look at it from this perspective, if a man asked you out on a first date and he planned everything out and then asked you to cover the bill you would probably look at him sideways and there would most likely not be a second date.
