Debuting new Michael Jackson songs at award shows has become quite the trend. After the King of Pop’s posthumous single “Love Never Felt So Good” was premiered at the iHeartRadio Music Awards late last month, the Billboard awards is planning to follow suit by premiering another single called “Slave To The Rhythm.” However, the Billboard performance is being thrown into jeopardy thanks to a lawsuit that was filed just yesterday.
Alki David filed a lawsuit against Michael Jackson’s Estate, Jackson’s production company, and the producers of the Billboard Awards. David, who claims to have the rights to the hologram technology, is suing because he wants the award show to scrap the performance because they are using his technology. The planned performance will feature a life-size 3D hologram of Jackson performing “Slave To A Rhythm” similar to the way the hologram 2Pac performed with Dr. Dre at Coachella back in 2012.

David wants to put a stop to this because he was planning on putting on a huge hologram Michael Jackson performance on himself. If the Billboard Awards go ahead with their performance using his technology, it would make his Michael Jackson hologram performance inconsequential.
Michael Jackson’s Estate’s attorney Howard Weitzman fired back at the lawsuit, “This is another Alki David stunt, no different than his claiming that Brandon Howard was Michael Jackson’s son. It is ludicrous … and the show goes on.”
