The revolving door of late show TV hosts opened up another spot. The Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson leaves his post at CBS at the end of the month, with English comedian and writer James Corden taking over in March. With a new host comes new musical direction— network has announced that they’ve tapped Reggie Watts as the revamped program’s bandleader.
Watts, a comedian known for looping his own voice and other sounds into lush structures live on stage, has released a handful of albums since the late ’90s and starred in his own comedy specials including the 2010 DVD “Why Shit So Crazy?” The comedian is currently sidelining a TV adaptation of the radio show turned podcast Comedy Bang! Bang!
CBS enlisting Watts for the new role adds to the network’s recent hire of Tosh.o co-creator and executive producer Mike Gibbons as the new Late Late Show head writer and co-executive producer according to the AV Club. In that light, The Late Late Show revamp will no doubt fall under the umbrella of newly youth-friendly examples for the format with Stephen Colbert making his way over to David Letterman’s current spot by September of next year and well into Jimmy Fallon and The Roots’ awesome NBC takeover.
