Since early debuts in the ‘90s on shows such as Cleghorne!, Friends, and Living Single, Sherri Shepherd has word the hats of an actress, standup comic, producer, and talk show co-host, just to name a few. During an appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s digital series ‘Who Am I,’ Shepherd revealed the key to her diverse entertainment resume.

‘If it’s something I can do with my eyes closed, I tend not to go for it, because I can do it with my eyes closed’ Shepherd said. ‘It’s kind of easy, and it’s not a challenge. So I feel like that should be somebody else’s blessing.’

One of Shepherd’s more recent challenges has been making her Broadway debut in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Cinderella. Both Shepherd and Keke Palmer joined the cast last fall.

‘Doing Broadway, I play Madame the evil stepmother,’ Shepherd said. ‘My skirt split all the way in the back, and I kept feeling air on my butt. But on Broadway, you don’t get to go, ‘Excuse me. Cut. Can we fix my skirt?’ So I put my hand behind my dress, I held that bustle together, and I sang, and I danced my heart out.’

Shepherd said she’s shrugged off criticism from those who said she was ‘too fat’ to be an actress as part of her contrarian mentality.

‘People said, ‘You’ll never be an actress because you’re too fat,’ Shepherd added. ‘It’s always really nice to look back and look at those people who said, ‘You can’t. Who do you think you are? It can’t be done,’ and go, ‘I did it!’

Cinderella ended its run with Shepherd and Palmer on January 3, 2015. Nene Leakes of The Real Housewives of Atlanta succeeded shepherd. The clip from Winfrey’s ‘Who Am I’ can be viewed below.
