Britain’s ITV, a public service network of British commercial television broadcasters, has greenlit a new Michael Jackson documentary that it said contains previously unseen footage of the late star.
The hour-long show, “My Friend Michael Jackson: Uri’s Story,” features video from the personal archive of Jackson’s friend, paranormalist Uri Geller. It has been commissioned by flagship web ITV1 and will be available for international sale, reports Variety.
The film depicts Jackson on a spending spree at the upscale London store Harrods, a visit to Exeter Football Club in England’s West Country, plus scenes from Geller and wife Hannah renewing their wedding vows in 2001, at which Jackson was best man.
“This is the real Michael Jackson, the way that just a handful of friends were privileged to see him,” Geller said. “Relaxed, witty, loving, smart, sincere and genuine. This film gives audiences around the world the opportunity to experience the reality of life with Michael.”
Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that AEG Live, the company behind Jackson’s planned comeback in London, is negotiating with several Hollywood studios seeking a deal to release in movie theaters a documentary about the singer’s final days.
The Los Angeles-based concert promoter is hoping to recoup some of the $30 million it spent to stage a series of concerts Jackson was preparing for at the time of his death, and make up for some of the lost revenue from box-office receipts and sales of merchandise and food, the Journal said, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The Journal said a deal could be reached as soon as this week, citing the sources.
