A report from Deadline by Nellie Anderson has linked Kanye West to the in-production period drama Railroad. The WGN vehicle is scheduled to feature former Law & Order: Special Victims Unit actor Christopher Meloni and Jurnee Smollett-Bell of The Great Debaters and Eve’s Bayou fame. Nothing is confirmed, but Anderson wrote the following:
“Underground, originally announced by WGNA in August, also is expected to have a top music name involved. I hear Kanye West is in talks for a role on the music side of the series.”
As its name implies, Underground is centered on a group of Antebellum-era Georgia slaves fleeing from a plantation aided by an abolitionist couple affiliated with the Underground Railroad. Reports have WGN already on board for 10 episodes, with the cast being rounded out by Aldis Hodge and Jessica De Gouw. While the series wouldn’t premiere until 2016, Anthony Hemingway—who has previously directed episodes of Power, Empire, Treme, and The Newsroom—is reportedly on board to direct.
