In 2012, a nine-year study by the Bureau of Justice Statistics concluded intimate partner violence accounted for 21% of all violent victimizations committed by immediate family members in America. “R&B Divas” cast member and former Ruthless Records artist Michel’le says she was one of the victimized in relationships with both Dr. Dre and Suge Knight.
“I do remember when he first hit me, when he gave me my very first black eye, we laid in the bed and he cried,” Michel’le said of the alleged abuse from Dr. Dre during an interview with Angela Yee and DJ Envy of Power 105.1. “He said, ‘I’m really sorry.’ I think that’s the only time he said he was sorry. He said, ‘I’l never hit you in that eye again.’ Years later I was talking to my friend, and I joked, ‘Yeah, he said he wasn’t going to hit me in that eye ever again, so he started hitting me in the other eye.’”
Michel’le said she also suffered a dislocated jaw during a later relationship with Suge Knight. She credited psychological therapy as the key to living a functional lifestyle after her previous relationships.
“Therapy is really good, so I’m kind of sticking with therapy,” she added. “Sometimes you have to go back and understand why you are the way you are. I never thought that was true. But then they connect the dots for you, you go, ‘I never would’ve saw that.’ Why did I date the same kind of man? You look for the same kind of man, and you attract the same kind of man… A lot of it comes from you being a child, your household, and what you see that you’ve put in your subconscious.”
