Earlier today, news came that First Lady Michelle Obama is scheduled to appear at this year’s “Black Girls Rock!” celebration, which tapes Saturday, March 28 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. FLOTUS will be on hand to honor the “Black Girls Rock!” M.A.D. GIRL honorees—three pioneering teen girls making great strides in education and blazing trails for others. “Black Girls Rock!” founder Beverly Bond said in a statement, “‘Black Girls Rock!’ works fervently year round to develop the leaders of tomorrow through arts education, cultural literacy, technology, and group mentoring programs. I am so excited to welcome First Lady Michelle Obama, whose Reach Higher initiative encourages young people to pursue and complete their education past high school, to join us here for the first time!”

Among the honorees for this year’s celebration are Erykah Badu, Ava DuVernay, and Cicely Tyson. Black-ish star Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King, whose new dramatic series, American Crime, premiered on ABC earlier this month, return to co-host the show, which will air on BET on Sunday, April 5.
