Friday, a Dalton, Georgia jury convicted 22-year-old Skyy Mims for the 2014 robbery and murder of Dahyabhai Chaudhari. Mims, whose full given name is Skyy Raven Marie Mims, was originally accused of stabbing the 37-year-old Chaudhari to death in a Georgia convenience store for approximately $200 in cash and scratch-off lottery tickets. According to a report from local CBS affiliate WRCB, Mims was convicted on 11 different charges after a jury deliberated for less than an hour.
“We are pleased obviously,” Murray and Whitfield County District Attorney Bert Poston said in a post-trial statement. “We’re happy for the community and happy for the family. The evidence in the case was overwhelming so the verdict is not unexpected. We’re just glad to get the case tried and get closure for friends and family that lost a good man.”
According to various reports, Mims’ DNA was found on latex gloves and bloody duct tape near the crime scene. While initial surveillance video made it impossible to positively identify Chaudhari’s killer, prosecutors say a cell phone dropped near his body had several videos and photos of Mims, including selfies. Mims, who was advised not to testify by her attorneys, laughed as the guilty verdict was handed down.
