Pumpkinhead, a veteran of Brooklyn’s underground hip-hop scene, has been reported dead at 39 years old. Commonly known as PH, Pumpkinhead’s given name was Robert Alan Diaz and the emcee appeared prominently on albums from the likes of Immortal Technique and Jean Grae.

Pumpkinhead, whose stage name nods to an iconic late ’80s horror film, got his start in the music industry in the late 1990s and found success under the tutelage of legendary radio deejay Bobbito Garcia. PH released his album The Old Testament in 2001 and then dropped Beautiful Mind in 2003. Two years later Pumpkinhead collaborated on a full-length album with Marco Polo titled Orange Moon Over Brooklyn.

More recently the former Makin’ Records emcee gained traction as a battle rapper.

Hip-hop artists like Talib Kweli, Immortal Technique, and more took to social media earlier today to pay homage to their fallen friend.
