An unsealed 2005 deposition detailing how comedian Bill Cosby used drugs on women he intended to have sex with is the latest controversy in the 77-year-old’s life, but that’s not what made his talent agency drop him, Deadline reports.
Cosby, who admitted to obtaining Quaaludes to give to women in a decade-old testimony, was “quietly” dumped by Creative Artists Agency last year when the allegations of sexual assault and rape were stacking up against the man who was once a mentor to many.
The agency represented him since 2012. Now, everyone’s once-favorite television dad is unrepresented in Hollywood.
“We do not represent him at this time,” a CAA official told Deadline.
Cosby is still listed as a CAA client on IMDBpro.com and he was on the list of clients in play when a dozen agents from the comedy department defected to UTA (though he was already in the midst of scandal and was probably the only one not being fought over at the time). Cosby made a splash when he moved to CAA in 2012 after being represented by the William Morris Agency for 48 years.
But CAA is not the first nor the last to distance themselves from Cosby. Just this week, Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando scrapped a statue of the comedian, and a petition brought forth by the sexual assault prevention group, Promoting Awareness/Victim Empowerment, is calling for President Obama to revoke Cosby’s 2002 Presidential Medal of Freedom.
The petition has picked up steam, but on Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said he didn’t know if “it’s legally possible” to take the medal back.
