On Monday night (August 4), Drake had a monstrous performance at OVO Fest, which consisted of comical quips aimed at Meek Mill and also star-studded appearances from the likes of Kanye West, Pharrell, and Future. While everything appeared to be gravy during the show, the after-party was the complete opposite, as two people were killed, and three were left critically injured.
According to Billboard, a male and a female were both killed after a “sporadic” shooting took place at Drake’s OVO Festival after-party at Muzik in Toronto. In addition to the two people that were killed, three were reportedly transported to different hospitals to recuperate after the uneventful incident occurred.
Frank Bergen, Toronto Police Superintendent of 14 Division, said the following to the media: “This is a sporadic shooting that did occur just before 3:30 this morning at 15 Saskatchewan. It’s the Muzik Nightclub. A well-run event with lots of police officers in and around the area, culminating on a large evening event that occurred over at the OVO Festival.”
Details pertaining to the identities of the victims remain vague, but Bergen reported that they were between their 20’s and 30’s. In addition, he acknowledged that one person died on the scene, while the other was pronounced dead at the hospital. What’s very alarming about the shooting is that a similar incident occurred last year at OVO Fest.
“We’re satisfied at this point that the organization involved was doing their best and this did occur at 3:30 this morning as things were shutting down for the evening.”
The official OVO after-party was hosted by Drake and was open to the general public at 10 p.m.
“What occurred originally in the bar area had spilled out into the streets so south and north of this area we do have three separate crimes scenes,” Bergen said.
“At this point we do know for certain that one or two [shootings] were in the nightclub and we believe the others were outside of that area. This is all unfolding now and we’re doing our investigation.”
