Kool DJ AJ has reportedly passed away, with the news being broken by his close friend and longtime music partner, Kurtis Blow.
The veteran deejay was a pioneer of hip-hop in the 1970’s, and worked with the likes of Busy Bee, and was eventually the official DJ for Kurtis.
There are currently no reports as to the cause of his death, or where he was at the time, but he is currently being mourned on social media by hip-hop fans, as well as other pioneers including Ice-T and DJ Freddie Fresh.

Kool DJ AJ retired in 2010 from the deejay game, and was responsible for breaking “The Breaks” rapper’s hit track “Christmas Rappin’” back in 1979. Hip-hop has lost another legacy-creator this year.
We send our condolences to the loved ones and fans of Kool DJ AJ during this tragic time. May he rest in peace.
