Kendrick Lamar‘s winning streak seems as if it has no plan of ending.
The mayor of Compton, Aja Brown, tweeted on Thursday that the Grammy-nominated rapper will be receiving the key to the city.
Appreciative, Kendrick tweeted the mayor back:
Kendrick, who grew up in Compton, has been making major strides in the community as of late. He was given the opportunity to meet President Obama due to his connection with the affiliate network of mentoring organizations called the National Mentorship Program. Kendrick released a promo video for the organization called “Pay It Forward” — his famous fist bump with Obama is included in the video.
Through his music and philanthropy efforts, Kendrick has talked about the struggles of growing up in Compton and how he worked as hard as he could to break the stereotype associated with his neighborhood. He released his first mixtape in 2003 when he was just 16 years old, and now, in 2016 he has transformed into, arguably, one of hip hop’s most influential icons.
Kendrick will receive the key to Compton during a ceremony held by the mayor on Feb. 13.
Two days after Kendrick’s prestigious honor, he is set to, hopefully, win 11 Grammys at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards.
Well done, Kendrick.
