Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera had a terrible start to the New Year, and his situation might get even worse.

One of the biggest problems that comes with housing one of the world’s most powerful drug lords, is knowing he has the resources to break out again. That’s why El Chapo might spend the rest of his life in the federal government’s only supermax prison: Colorado’s Administrative Maximum Security Penitentiary, also known as ADX. It’s also been nicknamed the “Alcatraz of the Rockies” and holds some of the world’s most dangerous criminals, including the Unabomber.

According to Business Insider, Norman Carlson, the former director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, describes the environment as “a very small subset of the inmate population who show absolutely no concern for human life.” Yikes.

Back in March, the New York Times did an in-depth feature on the prison and discovered that every inmate spends roughly 23 hours a day in solitary confinement in 12-by-7-foot cells with thick concrete walls.

If El Chapo manages to escape from ADX, his biopic will truly be epic.
