Heartbroken family and friends are planning a funeral for 17-year-old Ta’Jae Warner, who died Tuesday night after a senseless attack left her in a coma, the New York Daily News reports.

Family friend Lissette Pizarro told the newspaper that a group of teenagers assaulted Ta’Jae on Friday while she walked her 11-year-old brother to a store near their home. Doctors declared the beating victim brain-dead on Sunday, but her family kept her on life support so relatives could visit, and for organ donation.

Authorities arrested the main suspect, Sarina Agard-Forde, and charged her with felony and misdemeanor assault. However, the Brooklyn district attorney is expected to increase the charges now that the victim has died, according to the Daily News.

DNAinfo reports that Agard-Forde, 18, was held on $10,000 bond. She’s expected to appear in criminal court on Friday.

Pizarro told the Daily News that Ta’Jae “was very kind-hearted, loving, outgoing.”

The girl’s father, Arthur Warner, started a GoFundMe page to cover medical and funeral expenses. By Thursday morning, the campaign raised $4,650 of the $25,000 goal.
