An A Tribe Called Quest Mural Is Coming To Queens
Original A Tribe Called Quest member Jarobi White wasted no time petitioning to have a street named in Phife’s honor, after the rapper’s passing in March. Not only will Linden Boulevard be co-named A Tribe Called Quest Blvd, TMZ reports, but the legendary group will also have a mural painted on the side of Nu-Clear Cleaners–the famous dry cleaner featured in the video for “Check The Rhime.”
TMZ has what’s reportedly the mock-up of the design, which plays off the aesthetic of 1993’s Midnight Marauders album cober art. According to the site, artist Vince Ballentine is the mastermind behind the artwork.
Local Chicago graffiti artists also paid tribute to Phife with a mural in Logan Square back in March. You can check out those photos via Chicago Reader. See the mockup of the Nu-Clear Cleaners mural below.
