It’s been a tough year for entertainment with the deaths of stars like Prince and Muhammed Ali.

And now, according to reports, professional mixed martial artist Kimbo Slice died on Monday at the young age of 42. Bellator MMA president Scott Coker said in a statement:

“We are all shocked and saddened by the devastating and untimely loss of Kimbo Slice, a beloved member of the Bellator family. Outside of the cage he was a friendly, gentle giant and a devoted family man. His loss leaves us all with extremely heavy hearts, and our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Ferguson family and all of Kimbo’s friends, fans, and teammates.”

According to Coral Springs police, Slice was hospitalized earlier Monday in Margate, Florida, for undisclosed reasons. Although there is no word on the cause of death, police said no foul play was suspected. Coker called Slice “a charismatic, larger-than-life personality that transcended the sport.”

The former backyard brawler and Internet sensation changed the game of fighting for ever. He will be missed by fans worldwide.
