“If you have no interest in equal rights of Black people, do not make suggestions of those who do. Sit down,” Williams said to detractors of the Black Lives Matters movement.
It was a powerful speech addressing the weight bearing down on the Black community, and though the speech wasn’t about his family, he didn’t forget to shout out his wife, Aryn Drake-Lee.
“Before we get into it, I just want to say I brought my parents out tonight,” Williams said at the opening of his speech. “I just want to thank them for being here . . . And also thank my amazing wife for changing my life.”
But who is Aryn Drake-Lee?
In case you were wondering as much as we were, we rounded up a few facts to help you get acquainted with the woman behind the internet’s most-talked-about gentleman.
She’s an Ivy League-educated real estate broker.
According to luxury real estate firm Brown Harris Stevens, Aryn “began her career under the tutelage of Webb and Booker in Harlem while attending Barnard College at Columbia University.” She continued climbing the real estate ladder at William B. May.
Brown Harris Stevens’ website also shares that Mrs. Williams speaks fluent French and Spanish “thanks to her education at the French American International School.” Her phonetic prowess has given her quite the career boost – she’s stamped as a “skilled communicator” in the real estate world.
She’s Jesse’s entrepreneur-in-crime.
The couple debuted their Ebroji app earlier this year, giving users a more diverse way to express themselves. “Users are thankful that the categories sound like them, authentically…and the images look like them,” Williams explained on Twitter. “ALL of them. Brown, trans, ALL, people can see and use images that they connect to.”
Jesse admires Aryn’s confidence. He told PEOPLE in 2009: “She is her own person. Being intelligent and self-made is a big deal for me.”
She’s a bona fide ride-or-die.
Aryn was with Jesse long before he rose to fame. “I was a teacher when I met her, so she’s been with me through all different facets of my career,” Williams told USA Today in 2010. “She’s stuck with me through thick and thick and thick and thin. We know each other in and out.”
The couple now has two children, Sadie and Maceo.
