LeBron James was honored as Sports Person of the Year by Sports Illustrated on Monday night and gave an honest and touching speech while accepting his award.

But before he accepted the trophy, it was Jay Z who introduced him with a few kind words about how far James has come and some shade directed at Phil Jackson.

“We know where we come from,” Hov said. “We do understand where we come from, and the only difference between us and someone who has their MBA from Wharton or Sloan or Berkeley or Stanford is opportunity. LeBron James has provided his friends with that opportunity. And as we witness their development, and if we’re looking up at the scoreboard, very few businessmen are better than Maverick Carter, Rich Paul, Randy Mims, and all the rest of the posse behind the scenes that make it look like they’re just hanging out.”

The usage of the word “posse” is an obvious dig at Phil Jackson’s racially insensitive remark about James’ business partners.

King James would go on to thank his team because it’s never about the individual.

“It’s always about the people behind him,” he stated. “It’s always about the people that’s behind the camera. It’s always about the people that don’t get the credit. It’s always about the people that sacrifice what they could be doing with their lives for the better of the individual.”

He also cracked a few jokes about Michael Phelps and the bet he had with Dwyane Wade.

Watch the entire award show above with Jay Z’s introduction beginning around the 1:43:48 mark.
