Andy Reid is one of the NFL’s most successful head coaches who has never won a Super Bowl. The 61-year-old has a chance to change that narrative as his Kansas City Chiefs prepare to take on the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 54.
Before taking the head job in KC, Reid spent 14 successful seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. There he lost his only other trip to the Super Bowl, falling to the New England Patriots 24-21.
Similar to Reid, new Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera is well respected around the league but lost in his only Super Bowl appearance as a coach.
Reid was very complimentary of Washington’s big hire when he joined the Brian Mitchell Show with Scott Lin on Wednesday.
“You’ll love (Rivera). He’s dirty tough” Reid told the Team 980. “He was that way as a player and he does a good job with the guys, staying disciplined with them but he also gives them some room to grow.”
Rivera and Reid are both widely popular among NFL players but not because they are easy-going. The veteran coaches have reputations for demanding the most out of their guys and have disciplined tight-knit locker rooms.
That was not the same perception that surrounded the Washington Football Team previous head coach, Jay Gruden and his approach to coaching.
Reid warns Washington Football Team players to be ready to go when the time comes because Rivera isn’t here to mess around.
“They better strap it on and get ready to work, he’ll put them through the grinder,” Reid continued. “In the end, you guys will love him.”
Coach Reid couldn’t say goodbye without addressing the now-famous postgame burger that he had after Kansas City won the AFC championship.
“My brother-in-law made it. I don’t know how he does it but he makes a burger that’s unbelievable,” Reid told Brian Mitchell. “Come to Kansas City, I’ll have him make you one.”
