On the first day of Black History month U.S. Senator Cory Booker announced that he was throwing his hat into the 2020 Presidential race and while many believe he’s a long shot to end up in the White House, he’s not deterred a single bit of going for the gusto.

Recently the presidential candidate took his campaign trail to The Breakfast Club where he gave Angela Yee and Charlamagne Tha God some insight on why he decided to run for President, his rumored connection to pharmaceutical companies, and why he thinks Donald Trump being president turned out to be a good thing.

Here are the 7 things we learned from Cory Booker on The Breakfast Club.

1. The Running Man

Cory Booker decided to run for President because he felt that Americans are losing faith in that government will ever be helpful to them. “I think this is a time where people are doubting what we can do as a country. They’re beginning to believe that we’re at each other’s throats, we can’t get things done, and I’m saying we can address the unfinished business.”

2. Donald Trump

When asked about Donald Trump saying he doesn’t have a chance to be President, Cory simply responded, “This is who Donald Trump is. He doubts, he demeans, he degrades. I’m gonna show that the power of the people is greater than the person in power.” He forgot to say Donald also sells out his country to Russians but that’s neither here nor there.

3. A President For All Americans

Though Cory Booker won’t say he has a specific agenda for the Black community of America in mind, he does say that his goal is to help all Americans regardless of color. He says that he wants to battle injustice everywhere it may lie whether it be voter rights or healthcare.

4. The Sportsman

Cory actually played Pac 10 football in Stanford University. Slickly slid that in there while he was talking about the weakest Super Bowl every played this past Sunday. He also adds that he was a hurdler. No reason to reference that but he worked it into the conversation anyway.

5. Big Pharma Criticism

Touching on his controversial past where he was said to have given big pharma all kinds of breaks, Cory says “My record speaks for itself. Number one is when I was mayor of Newark we were able to get programs to drive down prescription drug costs for our residents because it was outrageous.” And as a senator he and Bernie Sanders wrote legislation on importing drugs and was a co-sponsor to punish drug companies that raised their rates higher than other countries. He’s also proud that he’s one of 6 senators who doesn’t take any corporate, lobbyist or pharma money. He’s completely grassroots with it.

6. The Trump Effect

Even though Donald Trump’s become the worst President in history, Cory says this is the most hopeful he’s “ever been for our democracy” because Cheeto Jesus has inspired people to rise up “and get involved” via voting, activism, and protests. The resistance really did rise once the Russian Agent took office.

7. Booker’s Boo

Though he’s not married right now and is running as a non-married candidate, Cory Booker does say that he’s dating someone special and she would make a good first lady. He’s not ready to talk marriage right about now though.
