It’s nice that the Governor of New York still has a sense of humor despite the recent drama in Albany. Along with Warner Music Vice President, Kevin Liles, Manhattan Borough President, Scott Stringer, the honorable David Patterson announced that Jay-Z would be hosting a special benefit concert on Sept. 11, 2009 at Madison Square Garden. The proceeds will go to the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund.

At a special press conference this morning the legally blind  Governor joked that he wanted to see the New York City Fire Commissioner, Nicholas Scoppetta in the front row “for myself.”

Seats to the show will all be $50 and go on sale September 8th. Jay-Z’s latest album, The Blueprint 3 will be released to coincide with the concert.  Watch the clip for Jay-Z’s recollections of 9/11/2001 and why he wanted to do this benefit.
