Drake Being Sued By Playboy Over “Best I Ever Had” Sample
Drake’s found himself in hot water over his hit single “Best I Ever Had.”
According to the lawsuit, Drake, along with Cash Money Records and Universal Music Group, did not secure proper permission to use a sample of the song “Fallin’ In Love” by Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds which was released on Playboy Records in 1975.
The lawsuit claims that the defendants “knew or should have reasonably known, that the sound recording was protected by copyright…” and that “each Defendant continues to infringe upon Plaintiff’s rights in and to the copyrighted sound recording.”
Playboy Enterprises wants an injunction that would halt the sale and distribution of the song, which would effectively take Drake’s So Far Gone EP off the market, or at least cause the label to re-release it without the song.
