Kanye West premiered his new 40-minute mini-movie to audiences in Paris and London this week.Based around “Runaway,” and several other songs from his forthcoming album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, the film tells the story of a phoenix, played by Selita Ebanks, that falls to earth.  Kanye explained the concept to New York Magazine:

“It’s the story of a phoenix fallen to Earth, and I make her my girlfriend, and people discriminate against her and eventually she has to burn herself alive and go back to her world.”

In addition to Ebanks’ role in the film, Nicki Minaj narrates the film with her fake English accent.

Kanye had lofty goals in mind when making the film, telling BBC Newsbeat that he wanted to make his own version of a few of popular music’s most classic films.  “Purple Rain, The Wall, Michael Jackson’s Thriller – I wanted to do a modern version of that.”

Michael Jackson’s influence must have been so heavy on the project that BBC Newsbeat claims that one scene even features a large papier mache model of Jackson’s head.

Kanye says the film, which he co-wrote and directed with art director Vanessa Beecroft and producer Jonathan Lia, would premiere worldwide within the next two weeks, and also will be packaged with his new album, which is to be released on November 22nd.
