NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg put the kibosh on a planned surprise performance next Monday from Jay-Z atop the marquee of the Ed Sullivan Theatre.
The decision was made days after the near riot at NYC’s South Street Seaport on Tuesday. Drake was scheduled to give a free performance there, but the expected crowd of 3,000 quickly turned into an unruly crowd of 10,000.
Sources told the New York Post that a permit for the show would have been granted if they were able to keep it a secret, however details about the show leaked yesterday.
Paul McCartney performed atop the marquee last year, but his appearance was kept a closely-guarded secret until the morning of the show when people noticed equipment being set-up in the area around the theater.
