“Style Wars” Filmmaker To Hold Fundraiser To Preserve 1st Hip-Hop Documentary
One of the men behind the legendary hip-hop documentary Style Wars will be participating in a fundraiser in Brooklyn to help preserve the 1983 documentary’s negatives which have started to decay.
On September 9th at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in Brooklyn, NY, Style Wars filmmaker Henry Chalfant will participate in a Q&A after the second of three screenings of the 70 minute documentary along with several of the graffiti artists and b-boys featured in the film.
The documentary, directed by Chalfant and the late Tony Silver, aired on PBS in 1984 and became a hit on the film festival circuit, winning the Grand Prize for documentaries at the 1984 Sundance Film Festival.
